Council of Nation President Vows Zero Tolerance for Serious Crimes

Azzouz Naceri, President of the Council of the Nation, has affirmed a clear direction towards toughening penalties for particularly serious crimes, marking a significant step to enhance societal protection and strengthen its criminal deterrence. This commitment underscores the state's resolve to address criminal activities that pose a grave threat to the well-being and security of Algerian citizens.
Naceri specified that this legislative focus targets crimes of extreme severity, notably deliberate arson and the kidnapping and abuse of minors. He emphasized that these measures are integral to elevating prevention levels and reinforcing public safety, unequivocally stating that there will be no tolerance for those who target citizen security, infringe upon lives and property, or victimize children through criminal acts and violations.
The President of the Council of the Nation delivered these remarks following the Council's approval of the Military Judiciary Law and the amended and supplemented Penal Code. He clarified that these legislative adjustments reflect the Algerian state's robust approach to bolstering criminal deterrence, all while strictly upholding the principles of legality, justice, and the guaranteed right to a fair trial.
Underscoring that citizen security represents a "red line," Naceri affirmed that safeguarding society is a fundamental responsibility of the state. The law, he stated, remains the legitimate and decisive instrument to confront any individual or entity that threatens Algeria's security and stability, reinforcing the nation's commitment to maintaining order and protecting its people.
