Federation Hails Strong Algerian Showing in Regional Triathlon
The Algerian Triathlon Federation recently highlighted its continuous efforts through the successful participation of Algerian athletes in the regional Africa Triathlon developmental championship. Held at Larbi Ben M'hidi beach in Felfela, Skikda, the competition saw Algerian women claim the championship title in the elite category, while the men's team secured second place overall. Soufiane Chakour, President of the Algerian Triathlon Federation, stated that the Algerian participation exceeded all expectations, underscoring that these positive outcomes reflect dedicated efforts, sound planning, and an optimistic, solution-focused approach by the federation.
In the elite women's category, Algerian athletes swept the top three positions. Dalia Aidouni finished first with a time of 1 hour, 12 minutes, and 2 seconds, followed by Saliha Narjes Brached in second place at 1 hour, 12 minutes, and 26 seconds. Lina Ben Nacer completed the Algerian dominance by securing third place with a time of 1 hour, 18 minutes, and 28 seconds. For the men's elite competition, Algeria's Naïm Makhfi achieved an impressive second-place finish, recording a time of 57 minutes and 38 seconds. The men's title was won by Zakaria Chtioui from Tunisia, with Remy Gerard of Mauritius taking third place.
The developmental championship, which aims to foster the growth of triathlon across the African regional area, featured 40 male and female athletes aged 16 and above. Participants represented four nations: Algeria, Mauritius, Togo, and Tunisia. Organized by the Algerian Triathlon Federation in coordination with Skikda's Sport Club Stora, the competition included a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer cycling race spanning four stages from the Larbi Ben M'hidi tourist village to the entrance of Felfela municipality, and concluded with a 5-kilometer run.
