Arkab Proposes Significant Energy Export Increase to Greece

Algerian Hydrocarbons Minister Mohamed Arkab recently proposed a significant increase in oil and natural gas exports to Greece during a meeting with Greek Parliament President Nikitas Kaklamanis in Algiers. The discussions, which focused on enhancing bilateral energy cooperation, highlighted Algeria's readiness to address Europe's hydrocarbon demands, especially amidst the current energy landscape. Minister Arkab underscored the substantial capabilities of Algeria's oil and natural gas production, noting that extraction currently approaches 47% of the nation's recorded sources.

During the meeting, Minister Arkab affirmed Algeria's position as a strategic and reliable partner for Greece in fulfilling its hydrocarbon requirements, particularly for natural gas. He also extended an invitation to Greek companies, encouraging them to bolster their presence and invest in Algeria's oil and gas sector. This includes opportunities in hydrocarbon exploitation, production, and the local manufacturing of associated equipment, leveraging the new legal frameworks designed to incentivize investment within Algeria's energy sector.

President Kaklamanis expressed satisfaction with the current state of relations between Algeria and Greece and confirmed his intention to brief Greece's relevant energy minister upon his return. Discussions also explored the potential for establishing a Greek-Algerian business forum in Algiers, aimed at thoroughly examining various investment possibilities within Algeria. Both sides emphasized the importance of fostering closer ties, intensifying consultations, and exchanging expertise to serve the mutual interests of the two friendly nations.
