EL PAÍS Viajes Unveils Two New Algerian Tour Circuits

EL PAÍS Viajes, a prominent Spanish tour operator, has unveiled two new tourist circuits scheduled to commence in Algeria early next year. The company described Algeria as a less explored destination, noting it generally does not appear in conventional tourist guides. This characteristic is highlighted as making the country particularly appealing for extraordinary travel experiences, with EL PAÍS Viajes stating that Algeria has preserved its distinctive character and has not succumbed to mass tourism, setting it apart from other destinations.
The cultural and immersive circuits are designed to be guided by Emma Lira, a Spanish travel journalist and writer recognized for her extensive knowledge of Algeria. One circuit, titled “Algeria, the captive of Dihya's lost islands,” is planned for 15 days of exploration. Early stages of the journey will focus on the capital, Algiers, with visits to historic sites such as the Casbah, Bastion 23 Palace, and the Port of Algiers. Participants will also discover Hammam Sidna and the Mustapha Pacha Palace, which houses the Museum of Miniatures and Calligraphy.
Following the capital, the itinerary extends into the Sahara, featuring Timimoun, known as the “red oasis.” Here, tourists will explore sites like the ksar of Badriana, an ancient fortress showcasing traditional Saharan architecture, and Ighzer, a village with local architecture and caves containing geological and human history spanning over 10,000 years. The journey also includes Oulad Said, a village notable for its weekly market, community life, and the ingenious foggara irrigation system, a network of underground channels vital for the survival of Saharan oases.
The concluding days of the circuit will introduce travelers to Beni Abbès, referred to as the “Pearl of Saoura,” and Taghit, a hidden gem in the Sahara known for its vast sand dunes and oasis. The comprehensive exploration will culminate with visits to the cities of Oran and Constantine, offering a diverse experience of Algeria’s various landscapes and cultural sites.
