French Warrant Leads to Key Trafficker's Algeria Arrest

Algerian authorities recently arrested Abdelatif Mehdi Laribi, a Franco-Algerian national, on July 20. His apprehension in Algeria was the result of an international arrest warrant issued by Marseille's public prosecutor's office, demonstrating effective judicial cooperation between Algeria and France.

Mr. Laribi, who remains presumed innocent, is considered by French judicial authorities to be one of the founding members of the "DZ mafia" network, a group specialized in drug trafficking. He faces charges including grouping for drug trafficking, criminal association, and money laundering.

The arrest of Mr. Laribi is linked to the extensive "Octopus" operation, which targeted the criminal organization in March. This operation previously led to the indictment of 26 individuals associated with the "DZ mafia," providing insights into the network's hierarchy, methods, and criminal and financial activities. Algerian authorities conducted the arrest discreetly, with no further details provided regarding the exact location or circumstances of his apprehension.
