National Pharmaceutical Production Reaches 84%; Algerian Car Aim for 2028
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced that Algeria now produces 84% of its pharmaceutical needs. The nation also aims to launch a fully Algerian-made car by 2028, contingent on partnerships and new factory openings.

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune recently revealed Algeria's significant progress in domestic pharmaceutical production, noting that the nation now meets 84% of its medication requirements. This marks a substantial increase from just 10% a decade ago, as highlighted during his annual address to economic operators. This development underscores Algeria's commitment to self-sufficiency in vital health sectors.
In the same address, President Tebboune outlined an ambitious plan for the country's automotive industry. He announced the goal to launch a fully Algerian-made car by 2028, encompassing the engine, frame, and wheels. This initiative is envisioned to proceed with collaborations involving German and Italian partners, alongside the establishment of two new manufacturing plants in Tissemsilt and Batna.
These announcements signal a proactive industrial strategy aimed at bolstering national capabilities and reducing reliance on imports. The target for a domestically produced vehicle by 2028 represents a forward-looking step in enhancing Algeria's manufacturing footprint and fostering economic diversification.
