SCLCO Dismantles Cross-Border Vehicle Theft Network, Recovers 20 Cars

Algerian security services, specifically the Central Service for Combating Organized Crime (SCLCO) of the National Security, have successfully dismantled a transnational criminal network involved in vehicle theft and smuggling. The operation led to the arrest of 18 individuals and the recovery of 20 diverse vehicles. Notably, several of these recovered vehicles were subject to international search notices issued by Interpol, highlighting the global reach of the illicit activities.

The criminal organization specialized in the unauthorized removal of vehicles and their clandestine transfer beyond Algerian borders. Its sophisticated method involved creating counterfeit administrative documents and forged license plates to provide stolen vehicles with new, seemingly legal identities, enabling them to evade routine checks. Investigators from the SCLCO employed a combination of technical expertise and extensive fieldwork, conducting investigations simultaneously across multiple wilayas, indicating the network's broad operational scope.

Beyond the vehicles, security personnel also seized 40 base files accompanied by falsified administrative documents crucial to the network's operations, along with 74 million centimes directly linked to their illicit activities. The entire procedure was meticulously overseen by the judiciary, with the competent public prosecutor guiding each stage of the investigation. Following their apprehension, the 18 suspects were presented before the public prosecutor at the Rouiba court in Algiers, underscoring Algeria's commitment to combating organized crime.
