Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, also holding the portfolio for the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, officially relaunched a strategic partnership with his Dutch counterpart, Tom Berendsen, during a working visit to Algiers on November 2, 2026. The two ministers signed an agreement solidifying this new phase of cooperation, building upon more than four centuries of shared history and diplomatic ties between Algeria and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. This initiative aims to reinforce bilateral relations and continue the political dialogue between the two nations.
The high-level discussions included a private meeting between the ministers, followed by an expanded working session involving delegations from both countries. These talks reviewed the historical friendship and cooperation, exploring avenues to advance relations to meet mutual aspirations and revitalize bilateral cooperation. Concrete steps were agreed upon, focusing on reactivating key cooperation mechanisms, notably the Joint Committee for Economic and Technological Cooperation and Political Consultations. Additionally, efforts will be made to update and strengthen the bilateral legal framework and encourage interaction between business communities to foster economic partnership.
The ministers identified several priority areas for enhanced cooperation, including energy, renewable energy, water resources, agriculture, and food industries. Furthermore, the meeting provided a platform for exchanging views on deepening dialogue and coordination regarding migration and consular affairs. Both parties also discussed significant current regional and international issues of common interest, underscoring the comprehensive scope of their renewed engagement.
