Swiss Roche, Saidal Sign Deal for Local Cancer Drug Output
Algerian state-owned Saidal group and Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche have signed an agreement to establish local production of innovative cancer drugs. This partnership aims to transfer technology and enhance national self-sufficiency in high-value-added medicines, notably for breast cancer treatment.

Algerian state-owned pharmaceutical group Saidal and Swiss giant Roche have formalized an agreement supported by the health ministries of both countries. The partnership's primary objective is to establish high-tech local production of innovative cancer drugs in Algeria, initially focusing on treatments for breast cancer, which represents a significant public health challenge in the nation.
The collaborative plan outlines a phased transfer of technology from the Swiss company and includes comprehensive training for Algerian specialists. This initiative marks a crucial shift for Saidal, transitioning from simple secondary packaging to a full operational cycle that encompasses working with complex molecules, independent dosage form manufacturing, and stringent quality control. This development significantly enhances Algeria's pharmaceutical production capabilities.
This project aligns with the Algerian government's commitment to achieving self-sufficiency in high-value-added, life-saving medicines. It is projected that the localization of production will substantially reduce government expenditure on importing medicines for central hospitals. Furthermore, this partnership underscores Algeria's viability as an attractive location for global biotechnology companies seeking to establish joint scientific and industrial ventures.
