Israeli forces have confirmed the targeted killing of Raed Saad, a senior commander within Hamas’s military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. The operation, which occurred in Gaza City, targeted a vehicle carrying Saad, according to reports.
An official statement from the Israeli military and Shin Bet security service identified Saad as the second-in-command within the al-Qassam Brigades, holding the key role of head of military manufacturing. The statement declared the operation a success, highlighting the significance of eliminating a high-ranking figure within the organization.
While details surrounding the specific circumstances of the strike remain limited, the assassination of Raed Saad represents a major blow to Hamas’s capabilities. Saad’s alleged role in overseeing military manufacturing suggests his involvement in the development and production of weaponry used by the group.
The killing is likely to escalate tensions in the region. Hamas is expected to retaliate.
