Ferry Operator GNV Notes Positive Traffic Trends for Algeria

Italian ferry company GNV has released its passenger figures for 2026, indicating a positive trend in maritime transport connecting Europe with North Africa. The company reported transporting approximately 2.2 million passengers across all its routes, marking a 2% increase compared to 2025. Specifically, the routes between Sète, Morocco, and Algeria saw a combined total of 215,000 passengers.
GNV highlighted that the positive passenger traffic trend is particularly evident in North Africa, with results for its Algerian operations in the past year continuing to consolidate. The company has also secured the ability to operate its Algerian services throughout the entire year, further solidifying its presence and connectivity for the region. Overall, GNV's operations on combined Morocco and Algeria routes from Sète registered an increase of 30,000 passengers from 185,000 between January and September 2025 to 215,000 in 2026 for the same period.
These developments underscore GNV's ongoing growth trajectory and its increasing establishment within North African markets. To support anticipated demand, the company plans to introduce four new LNG-powered ferries, named Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, and Venus, on its Maghreb routes by the end of 2027. These larger vessels, measuring 237 meters, will enhance the capacity and efficiency of maritime connections, including those serving Algeria.
