Fifty Algerian Institutions Top Arab World in Latest QS University Ranking

Algeria has achieved the top position in both the Arab world and the Maghreb region for the number of higher education institutions included in the QS Arab Region University Rankings 2027. According to a statement from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, this year's ranking features 50 Algerian higher education establishments, marking a notable increase from previous years.

The inclusion of 50 institutions in the 2027 ranking represents a substantial rise compared to 46 institutions listed in the 2026 edition and only 15 in the 2025 classification. This continuous growth underscores an improved presence and enhanced recognition of Algerian universities within this significant regional ranking framework.

Domestically, Annaba University led the ranking among Algerian academic institutions. The QS Arab Region University Rankings aim to evaluate and compare the performance of higher education bodies across the region, utilizing a framework that incorporates 10 key indicators. These metrics assess various aspects, including academic reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, and the proportion of international students, among other factors measuring institutional performance and competitiveness.
