Hanoi Olympiad Honors Algeria for Best Astronomy Poster

Algeria achieved notable international recognition at the 19th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad (IOAA), which concluded in Hanoi, Vietnam, on October 4, 2026. The nation's participation culminated in securing the prestigious 'Best Poster' award among competitors from 66 countries.
The competition, which involved over 300 students, included rigorous tests spanning theoretical problem-solving, astronomical data analysis, telescope observation, and planetarium examinations, alongside teamwork challenges. Algeria's specific accolade, for its poster, was a highlight among the special awards distributed during the closing ceremony at VinUni University. This achievement was confirmed by Dr. Aniket Sule, head of the IOAA Executive Committee.
This award marks a significant step for Algeria, particularly as Arab participation in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad has historically been limited compared to countries with long-standing astronomy training programs for students. The recognition underscores the growing capability of Algerian teams in a demanding scientific competition that assesses high levels of physics, mathematics, astronomy, and practical observation skills. The Olympiad aims to identify young scientific talents, encourage their pursuit of astronomy and astrophysics, and foster scientific connections among students globally.
