Cabinet Adopts 2027 Finance Law with Salary Hikes, Greenlights Rail Expansion

The Algerian Cabinet has approved the 2027 Finance Law, a measure that includes salary increases for citizens while explicitly ensuring no new taxes will impact purchasing power. This directive aims to preserve the economic stability of households, encompassing both middle-class individuals and those with modest incomes. The move reflects a commitment to enhancing citizen welfare as part of the nation's economic planning.
Concurrently, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has ordered the immediate launch of major railway projects, designating them as top priorities within the public works sector. These initiatives are designed to establish a comprehensive North-South rail connection, specifically linking Laghouat, Ghardaia, El Meniaa, In Salah, and ultimately Tamanrasset. The President stressed the importance of accelerating construction, setting a target for the entire project's completion by the end of 2028, enabling Algerians to travel by train from the North to the Grand South.
Further supporting this ambitious infrastructure development, the African Development Bank has approved financing for the railway section extending from El Meniaa to Tamanrasset.
