Information, Electoral Sectors Adapt to Global Developments
Minister of Communication Mohamed Bouslimani recently affirmed that significant reforms in Algeria’s information and electoral sectors, guided by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, are designed to align with current geopolitical developments. These initiatives also respond to major transformations within the national landscape since 2019, adapting to technological and geopolitical changes that influence democratic practices and states' sovereign decisions. The Minister delivered these statements during the opening of a study day on media and local elections 2026, an event jointly organized with the National Independent Election Authority at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center in Algiers.
Within this framework, Algeria has positioned the electoral process as a key democratic mechanism, emphasizing the ethicalization of political life and the eradication of illicit financial influence from elections. The reforms aim to enhance equality by broadening the participation of Algerian women and youth. Minister Bouslimani highlighted that the adopted reforms, which encompass legal and institutional aspects, are part of a farsighted policy intended to usher in a new era for public affairs management, ultimately elevating political engagement across the nation.
The Minister underscored the vital role of the media in successfully supporting these transformations, noting the constitutional guarantees that reinforce journalists' freedom and protect them in the exercise of their profession within legal bounds. He confirmed that the communication sector is actively working to empower this role by strengthening the legal framework and providing specialized training, enabling journalists to deliver their informational mission with responsible freedom and professional impartiality. The Minister commended the Algerian media's consistent professional commitment and national spirit in supporting state efforts, recognizing its crucial role in countering disinformation, reinforcing the domestic front, and showcasing strategic projects, thereby upholding the state's citizen-centric policy and restoring Algeria’s standing regionally and internationally.
