Local Administration Sees Governor Shifts Across Seven Wilayas

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune implemented a partial reshuffle within the corps of the Republic's governors on 20 October 2026. This initiative impacted seven wilayas through a combination of transfers and new appointments, aiming to enhance local governance and administrative effectiveness.

The reshuffle saw four governors transferred to new wilayas. Riyad Ben Ahmed moved from Batna to Aflou, while Youcef Bechlaoui transitioned from Tlemcen to assume leadership in Batna. Mohamed Mezian was transferred from El Tarf to Béjaïa, and Kamel Nouissar relocated from Bordj Bou Arreridj to Tlemcen.

Additionally, three officials received new appointments as governors. Abdelouahab Zini, who previously served as the delegate governor of El Harrach Administrative District in Algiers Province, was appointed to El Tarf. Redouane Khelifa, formerly the delegate governor of Bab El Oued Administrative District in Algiers, became the governor of Bordj Bou Arreridj. Omar Boutahraoui, the Secretary-General of Oum El Bouaghi Wilaya, was assigned as governor of Barika Wilaya.

This series of changes is consistent with periodic adjustments made to the governors' corps. The objective is to introduce new energy into the management of local affairs and to strengthen the overall performance of the administration at the wilaya level. (Reporting by Omar Tadrist.)
