Oranaise Blouza Captivates Public at Chlef Cultural Event

The National Exhibition of Handicrafts and Traditional Attire, held at the Abdelmadjid Meziane National Public Museum in Chlef, has successfully captivated visitors with its display of Algerian cultural heritage. A central attraction has been the stand dedicated to the "Blouza Oranaise," which garnered significant public interest. Attendees explored the intricate details of this traditional costume and witnessed its historical progression, from early designs to the latest creations by artisans. Visitors, including Ms. Latifa Harmel and Ms. Ferial Khalif, expressed admiration for the exhibited models, with Ms. Khalif even placing an order for a "blouza."

The exhibition provides a comprehensive journey through the evolution of the "Blouza Wahrania," showcasing models that trace its development over 120 years. Researcher Lekbad Fatiha, from Oran, presented eight distinct models illustrating adaptations made by the inhabitants of western Algeria and Oran. The display spans from the "abaya" adorned with "al-majboud" threads to contemporary "blouza" designs, demonstrating how the garment has adapted in conception, fabric quality, motifs, and colors across generations while preserving its authenticity. Various types of "chadda" (Oranaise head coverings) like "meftoul" and "mandil," worn by older women and brides, were also featured, underscoring the rich tradition of specialized craftsmanship.

This cultural event, which saw participation from 33 exhibitors across ten wilayas including Oran, Blida, Algiers, Bouira, and Tlemcen, serves as a vital platform for promoting traditional Algerian attire. Ms. Lekbad Fatiha, who contributed to the classification file for the "Blouza Wahrania," highlighted the exhibition's role in advancing this traditional garment. It also fosters opportunities for cooperation and training for individuals interested in the field, further enriching and preserving Algeria's invaluable sartorial heritage for future generations.
