President Tebboune Directs New Agricultural Sector Roadmap

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has mandated a forthcoming Council of Ministers meeting to exclusively address the agricultural sector, initiating a new comprehensive roadmap for its organization. This presidential directive aims to infuse renewed momentum into various agricultural sub-sectors and directly tackle the continuous rise in prices for fruits, vegetables, and other essential food products. A core objective is to stabilize market prices, enhance the accessibility of consumer goods, and protect the purchasing power of Algerian citizens by improving both the quantity and quality of agricultural supply, while also aiming to decisively end speculative practices.

This strategic focus on agriculture follows an inter-ministerial meeting, presided over by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, which addressed the national market situation. The earlier discussions resulted in several supportive measures for farmers and sector stakeholders. These include the implementation of tax exemptions for agricultural activities, as confirmed by the National Federation of Poultry Breeders, along with substantial financial support and project financing from all public banks for agricultural investments. Furthermore, procedures for importing agricultural inputs have been simplified, with dossiers now directly submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture.

The National Federation of Poultry Breeders expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the government for their commitment and support to the agricultural sector, particularly to farmers and breeders. In light of the ongoing efforts to manage agricultural product prices, the Federation also called for collective solidarity and responsibility among all participants in the poultry value chain. This appeal encourages a concerted effort to reduce the costs of poultry production inputs and the prices of white meat and eggs, thereby contributing to market stability and sustained production.
