Priority Wilayas to Receive Desalinated Water Supply

Minister of Hydraulics Lounas Bouzegza chaired a pivotal working meeting in Algiers to review progress on connecting new seawater desalination plants. This initiative directly implements directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, specifically focusing on the wilayas of Chlef, Mostaganem, and Tlemcen, which have been designated as priority areas for improved water access. The meeting follows outcomes from a recent cabinet session where President Tebboune emphasized the urgent need to supply these regions with desalinated seawater.

During the session, Minister Bouzegza underscored the necessity of expediting technical and regulatory procedures while enhancing coordination among all involved parties. This concerted effort is designed to facilitate the rapid commencement of project implementation according to established priorities. The expansion of these connection operations to other wilayas will proceed following thorough technical assessments of their local surface and groundwater resources, ensuring a strategic and efficient approach to national water distribution.

The Minister stressed the critical importance of this endeavor, highlighting its direct positive impact on improving citizens' access to drinking water and enhancing public services. This strategic focus on seawater desalination and its effective distribution is a fundamental component in strengthening Algeria's national water security. The acceleration of these projects represents a concrete step towards diversifying water sources and ensuring a sustainable supply for the population.
