Progress Noted on Algiers Metro Network Expansion Projects
Kherfi Menad, Director-General of the Algiers Metro Company (EMA), conducted a field visit on Wednesday to assess the progress of the Algiers Metro network extension projects. The visit included representatives from key construction firms such as COSIDER Public Works, along with study and monitoring offices SAETI (Algerian Company for the Study of Structures) and CTTP (National Technical Control Body for Public Works). The delegation's tour focused on examining the advancement of works crucial for expanding the capital's public transport infrastructure.
The inspection covered several stations within the extension from Martyrs' Square towards Bab El Oued. At Talab Abderrahmane station, excavation operations are actively underway, including the digging of ventilation shaft No. 08, while ground treatment above the tunnel is being prepared for the main tunnel excavation. Further along this extension, preliminary and preparatory works, notably the relocation of networks, have been completed at both Three Hours and Trioli stations, paving the way for subsequent construction phases to proceed as scheduled.
The visit also extended to the Garden station, part of the Ain Naadja to Baraki line extension, where the installation of station supports using anchor cables is in progress. Additionally, the excavation of the connecting tunnel between ventilation shaft No. 09 and the main tunnel has been finalized, and ventilation shaft No. 10 was thoroughly inspected. These developments highlight the ongoing comprehensive efforts to expand the metro system's reach across Algiers.
During the visit, emphasis was placed on the importance of continuous coordination among the construction companies and the study and monitoring offices. Instructions were issued to maintain adherence to the planned schedule, intensify efforts, and strictly observe technical standards and safety requirements. This concerted approach aims to ensure the timely and successful completion of the Algiers Metro network expansion projects, further enhancing urban mobility for residents.
