Ras El Afia Named Airbus A330neo Arrives for Air Algérie

Air Algérie announced the reception of its sixth Airbus A330neo aircraft this Saturday, named "Ras El Afia." This new addition reinforces the national airline's fleet and is a key component of its ongoing program for fleet renewal and expansion, which was initially launched in 2023. The name "Ras El Afia" reportedly honors national memory and recognizes the steadfastness of the local population in Jijel province, where a lighthouse of the same name is located.
The Airbus A330neo model aircraft are designated for long-haul routes and can accommodate over 300 passengers across various travel classes. These aircraft are known for their fuel efficiency, consuming up to 25 percent less fuel compared to previous generations, leading to reduced carbon dioxide emissions. They are also equipped with advanced entertainment systems, including Wi-Fi connectivity. The new aircraft joins five existing A330neos in the fleet, previously named "November 54," "Gara Djebilet," "January," "Al Jalia," and "Al Fennec."
The comprehensive fleet renewal initiative includes plans to acquire a total of 10 Boeing 737 MAX 9s, 10 Airbus A330neos, and 16 ATR 72-600s. The ATR 72-600s are specifically intended to bolster the domestic air transport network. This strategic acquisition program forms part of Air Algérie's broader action plan, which extends until 2035, aiming to procure additional aircraft to meet the growing demand for air transport both domestically and internationally.
