THE 2027 Rankings: Algeria Achieves Maghreb First, African Second

Algeria has distinguished itself in the Times Higher Education (THE) 2027 global university rankings, achieving the top position within the Maghreb region and securing second place across the entire African continent. This notable achievement was confirmed by a recent statement from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, underscoring the nation's rising prominence in the international academic landscape.

The 2027 edition of the THE rankings reflects a substantial increase in Algerian representation, with 31 national higher education institutions now included, up from 28 in the 2026 rankings. This growth directly contributes to Algeria's leading position in the Maghreb and its second-place standing in Africa regarding the sheer number of ranked universities. Furthermore, El-Oued University has been specifically highlighted for occupying the foremost national position, categorized within the 1200-1400 global tier of ranked institutions.

These positive results are attributed to the sustained efforts by the Algerian higher education sector. The consistent work aims to enhance the global positioning of national institutions across various international rankings and to foster excellence. This strategic focus is designed to significantly boost the international visibility and recognition of Algeria's university establishments.
