Tripoli Charter Adopted for African UN Security Council Reform

Ahmed Attaf, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, participated in the 14th ministerial meeting of the African Union's Committee of Ten (C-10) Heads of State and Government on UN Security Council reform. The meeting, held in Tripoli, focused on developments in intergovernmental negotiations regarding the Council's reform. Participating ministers underscored the importance of continued coordination and consultation within the C-10 to strengthen African unity and adhere to the continent's common demands, in line with the Sirte Declaration and the Ezulwini Consensus.

During the meeting, Minister Attaf reiterated Algeria's steadfast commitment to the unified African position on Security Council reform. He called for ongoing diplomatic action and intensified efforts to garner increased international support for African demands. This sustained engagement aims to fulfill the continent's aspirations for its rightful role within the global governance system, ensuring fair and equitable representation.

The 14th ministerial meeting concluded with the adoption of the 'Charte de Tripoli' (Tripoli Document). This document reaffirmed the unified African position on Security Council reform and emphasized the necessity of ending the historical injustice against the African continent. The Charter seeks to secure fair and equitable African representation in international decision-making bodies, underscoring the continent's push for a more just global order.
