Algiers, January 15, 2025 – Nordine Yassa, Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy in charge of Renewable Energies, welcomed on Wednesday Ahmed Nouh, President of the Amidal Foundation, which recently won the bronze medal in the International Housing Award organized in partnership with UN-Habitat. The meeting underscored Algeria’s commitment to sustainable development and innovative housing solutions, according to a statement from the Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies.
During the meeting, Yassa congratulated the Amidal Foundation, based in Beni Isguen, Ghardaia Province, on its international recognition. The foundation received the award for its Tafilalt Tijdit Palace Project, a groundbreaking initiative in eco-friendly and climate-adapted housing.
A Model of Sustainable Living
The Tafilalt Tijdit Palace Project stands out as an innovative model of adaptation to the region’s climatic conditions. Spanning 22 hectares and comprising 1,050 housing units, the project seeks to preserve the local ecosystem and architectural heritage. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the development integrates traditional design with modern sustainable practices to promote environmental conservation and cultural preservation.
Collaboration for Future Projects
The meeting also included discussions on ongoing and future energy, economic, environmental, and social projects in Ghardaia Province. Ahmed Nouh was accompanied by Haj Suleiman Baali, President of the Council of Elders of Beni Isguen. The discussions highlighted the importance of aligning community-driven projects with national renewable energy and development policies.
Engaging Civil Society in Energy Policies
A key focus of the discussions was the integration of civil society representatives into Algeria’s energy policies. The aim is to ensure that energy initiatives contribute to inclusive and sustainable development while empowering local communities to take an active role in shaping their future.
