Visit of a French Minister to the Occupied Sahrawi Territories: “A New Chapter of Aggression Against the Sahrawi People”

New York (United Nations) – The Polisario Front’s representative to the United Nations and coordinator with MINURSO, Sidi Mohamed Ammar, stated that the visit by a member of the French government to the occupied Sahrawi territories represents “a new chapter of aggression against the Sahrawi people, international law, and the principles of international legitimacy.”

In an interview with the news outlet “Al-Hurra,” reported by the Sahrawi News Agency (SPS), Mr. Mohamed Ammar reiterated the Sahrawi Republic’s strong condemnation of this French move, describing it as “a reflection of the hostility harbored by official France toward the Sahrawi people and their legitimate aspirations to restore sovereignty over their homeland.”

The Sahrawi diplomat pointed out that “France has consistently supported the Moroccan occupying state politically, diplomatically, and militarily since the beginning of the conflict, in complete contradiction with its responsibilities as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and the spirit of the UN Charter, including Chapter XI, which frames the Sahrawi issue as a decolonization matter.”

The Sahrawi government expressed its strong condemnation of the visit, describing it as a “hostile and provocative act” that reveals the true face of France’s complicity with occupation policies and expansionist ambitions, in blatant defiance of international law and the internationally recognized rights of the Sahrawi people, particularly their right to self-determination and independence.

The Sahrawi government warned of the serious consequences of this provocative step and affirmed that “the Sahrawi people will not stand idly by in the face of attempts to steal their cultural identity and erase their authentic heritage.”
