Approval and Standardization of Spare Parts to Begin Next Week in Algeria

Jijel – The Minister of Industry, Sifi Ghrib, announced on Wednesday in Jijel that the process of approval and standardization of spare parts will commence at the beginning of next week. This initiative marks a significant first step toward manufacturing in Algeria.

During his visit to various workshops of the Maghreb Precision Mechanics and Industrial Maintenance Company (SOMOMI), located in the industrial zone of Oulad Salah in Taher, Minister Ghrib emphasized that this process is a cornerstone for establishing an industrial base in Algeria. He stressed that the National Network for Accreditation and Certification will be crucial for structuring industrial activities and ensuring proper integration in the manufacturing sector.

Furthermore, the minister reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to supporting all stakeholders in developing their projects and fostering a strong national Algerian industry.

SOMOMI: A Leading Precision Mechanics Company in North Africa

Established in 1990, SOMOMI is one of the largest private investors in precision mechanics in North Africa. According to CEO Adel Ben Sassi, the company exported spare parts to Airbus in 2009 and later contributed to the manufacturing of satellite components. Starting in early 2026, the company plans to expand exports to several international markets.

Minister’s Visit to Key Industrial Projects in Jijel

As part of his two-day visit, Minister Ghrib also inspected the El-Ketamiya Cork Company in Bourmel, Jijel. Later in the evening, he is scheduled to assess progress on the Ketama Agrifood project, which focuses on oilseed crushing and oil extraction.

On Thursday, the minister will visit Djen Djen Shirts Company, a leather tanning factory in the provincial capital, and the development project of the Bellara Industrial Zone in El Milia.

This visit highlights Algeria’s commitment to boosting its industrial sector and enhancing domestic production and exports.
