The Bank of Algeria, on Thursday, reiterated that the currency exchange granted for travel abroad is a strictly personal right and cannot be transferred or used by a third party, in accordance with existing regulations. This reminder comes after content circulating on social media that promoted organized travel activities abroad, which included practices violating currency exchange regulations and anti-money laundering legislation.
The bank clarified that the directive No. 05-2025 on currency exchange for travel explicitly prohibits any attempt to repurpose funds allocated for foreign travel. Violations of these rules may lead to legal consequences as per the applicable legislation. The Bank of Algeria emphasized that the funds allocated for travel are intended solely to finance the personal stay of the beneficiary abroad, and it is strictly forbidden to hand over this amount to any third party under any circumstances.
The statement urged citizens to respect the designated purpose of this right, ensuring it is used exclusively for travel-related expenses.
