Algeria’s Prime Minister, Sifi Gherib, officially inaugurated the members of the National Economic, Social, and Environmental Council (CNESE) for the 2025-2029 term on Monday at the Palais des Nations. The council comprises 200 members. This key appointment underscores the Algerian government’s commitment to strengthening its advisory bodies and fostering national development.
The CNESE serves as a crucial consultative institution, providing a platform for dialogue, consultation, proposal development, evaluation, and the study of matters of national interest. Its role is pivotal in shaping Algeria’s economic and social policies.
During the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Gherib emphasized the significant role, influence, and contributions of the Council. He described it as a reservoir of national talent and expertise, capable of supporting various activities related to public policy formulation. The Prime Minister highlighted the council’s potential to enable the national system to effectively address local, regional, and international challenges, mitigating their impact on national programs and ensuring comprehensive economic recovery.
He further stressed the importance of the CNESE in strengthening national capabilities, particularly in the industrial sector, and in realizing strategic projects in the southern regions of the country. He also touched upon the importance of valuing national energy capabilities. These efforts, according to the Prime Minister, are aimed at consolidating the state’s social role, promoting transparency, and ensuring good governance. These are the goals, he stated, that the President of the Republic relies upon to implement on the ground through dialogue and transparency.
Mohamed Boukhari, the president of the CNESE, reaffirmed the importance that the President of the Republic attaches to the Council’s contribution to building economic dynamism. The Council is expected to play a vital role in shaping Algeria’s economic future, providing expert advice and contributing to the development of sustainable and inclusive policies. The focus on economic recovery, industrial development, and energy capabilities highlights Algeria’s strategic priorities for the coming years. The newly appointed members of the National Economic, Social, and Environmental Council are poised to contribute significantly to Algeria’s progress in the years ahead, advising on key issues and helping to navigate the complex challenges of the 21st century. The government hopes that the CNESE will become a driving force for positive change, promoting sustainable development and improving the lives of all Algerians. This appointment marks a significant step in Algeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its institutions and promote inclusive governance. The emphasis on dialogue and transparency underscores the government’s commitment to engaging with all stakeholders in the development process. The CNESE is expected to play a key role in fostering consensus and building a shared vision for Algeria’s future. The Council’s work will be crucial in ensuring that Algeria’s economic and social policies are aligned with the needs and aspirations of its citizens. The new members bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the table, and their contributions will be invaluable as Algeria seeks to build a more prosperous and equitable society.
