Sonatrach Inks Key Training Deal with Mauritanian Oil Firm

Algeria’s state-owned oil and gas company, Sonatrach, has signed a significant agreement with the Mauritanian Hydrocarbons Company (SMH) to bolster the skills and expertise of SMH’s personnel. The deal, finalized in Nouakchott, Mauritania, focuses on training and development in management and related professional fields. This collaboration signifies a strengthening of bilateral relations and a commitment to fostering growth within the energy sector of both nations.

Representing Sonatrach at the signing ceremony was Souad Abdallah, Director of the Sonatrach Management Academy, while Taleb Khiar, Deputy CEO of SMH, represented the Mauritanian side. Also in attendance were Ismail Allatou, Executive Director of Human Resources at Sonatrach, and Mohamed Khouja, Director of the Algerian Petroleum Institute, highlighting the importance of the agreement.

The core objective of the training contract is to enhance cooperation between the two companies through knowledge sharing and expertise transfer. SMH will benefit directly from Sonatrach’s extensive experience and proficiency in the oil and gas industry. This will be achieved through tailored training programs designed specifically to meet the unique needs of the Mauritanian Hydrocarbons Company. These programs will be instrumental in equipping SMH employees with the necessary skills to excel in their respective roles.

The implementation of this agreement will pave the way for innovative and targeted training initiatives. These initiatives are designed to promote professional development and encourage skills enhancement for both Sonatrach and SMH employees. The focus will be on creating a highly skilled workforce capable of driving growth and innovation within the energy sector.

This agreement carries significant weight as it falls under a broader strategic cooperation framework between Algeria and Mauritania. This framework emphasizes the development of skills and training within the energy sector, reflecting a joint commitment to building capacity and fostering sustainable growth. The partnership between Sonatrach and SMH is a testament to the dedication of both nations to strengthening their ties and working together to achieve shared goals in the energy industry. Sonatrach’s expertise in oil and gas exploration, production, and management will be invaluable to SMH as Mauritania seeks to further develop its own hydrocarbon resources. This collaboration promises to be a mutually beneficial partnership, contributing to the growth and prosperity of both Algeria and Mauritania. The deal also underscores Sonatrach’s commitment to expanding its influence and partnerships within the African energy landscape, solidifying its position as a key player in the region.
