Algiers – The Independent National Elections Authority (ANIE) has officially announced the commencement of the periodic revision of electoral lists, a crucial process aimed at ensuring the accuracy and comprehensiveness of voter registration ahead of future elections. The revision period will run from Monday, October 20, 2025, to Tuesday, November 18, 2025, ANIE confirmed in a statement released today.
This initiative underscores the Algerian government’s commitment to strengthening democratic processes by ensuring that all eligible citizens have the opportunity to participate in shaping the nation’s future. The periodic revision serves several vital functions, including adding newly eligible voters, updating address information, and removing deceased or ineligible individuals from the rolls. This process is essential for maintaining the integrity of elections and preventing potential irregularities.
According to the ANIE statement, Algerian citizens who are not currently registered on the electoral lists but will have reached the age of 18 by December 31, 2025, and who meet all other legal requirements, are strongly encouraged to apply for registration in the electoral list of their municipality of residence. This is a critical opportunity for young Algerians to exercise their right to vote and have their voices heard in the democratic process.
Furthermore, citizens who are already registered but have changed their place of residence are required to request a transfer of their registration to the electoral list of their new municipality. Failure to do so could result in disenfranchisement, as they would not be able to vote in their current location. This step is particularly important for ensuring that the electoral rolls accurately reflect the current population distribution across the country.
The ANIE also addressed the issue of address changes within the same municipality. Citizens who have moved within their municipality or have identified errors in their personal information on the electoral list are urged to update their details. This can be done by visiting the municipal delegation of the Independent Authority in their place of residence and submitting a request, accompanied by proof of identity and proof of residence. The service will be available from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM every day of the week, excluding Fridays and Saturdays.
Recognizing the importance of accessibility and convenience, the ANIE has also provided an online platform for citizens to check their registration status and submit requests for registration, cancellation, or updates to personal information. The online portal can be accessed at: https://services.ina-elections.dz/. This digital option aims to streamline the process and make it easier for citizens to participate, particularly those who may have difficulty visiting the municipal delegations in person.
For Algerian citizens residing abroad, the ANIE has outlined a specific procedure. These citizens are required to contact the Algerian diplomatic or consular missions in their country of residence to request registration on the electoral lists. The same procedures and requirements apply to Algerian citizens living abroad as those residing within Algeria. This ensures that all eligible Algerian citizens, regardless of their location, have the opportunity to participate in the electoral process.
The ANIE’s emphasis on accurate voter registration reflects a broader effort to promote transparency and credibility in Algerian elections. Following recent reforms aimed at strengthening the independence and impartiality of the electoral authority, the periodic revision of electoral lists is seen as a key step in building public trust in the electoral process.
The revision period provides ample time for citizens to complete the necessary steps to register or update their information. The ANIE is urging all eligible Algerians to take advantage of this opportunity to ensure that their names are accurately reflected on the electoral lists. Active participation in this process is essential for upholding the integrity of elections and ensuring that the voices of all Algerians are heard.
Political analysts in Algiers have welcomed the announcement, noting that a clean and up-to-date voter registry is fundamental to a healthy democracy. They emphasize the importance of citizen engagement in the revision process, urging political parties and civil society organizations to play an active role in informing and mobilizing voters.
The upcoming revision of electoral lists represents a significant opportunity to strengthen Algeria’s democratic institutions and promote greater civic participation. By ensuring the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the voter registry, the ANIE is taking a crucial step towards building a more inclusive and representative political system for all Algerians.
