Oran Film Fest Highlights Arab Cinema, Algerian History

The Oran International Arab Film Festival continues to captivate audiences with a diverse selection of cinematic works. The Lebanese film, Costa Brava, Lebanon, has been particularly noted for its poignant narrative, prompting reflection on returning to one’s roots. The festival, running through early November, showcases the breadth and depth of Arab filmmaking.

Alongside contemporary stories, historical narratives are also taking center stage. The film Lovers of Algeria has drawn considerable attention, offering a compelling portrayal of Algerian life and culture. Furthermore, the historical epic Zighoud Youcef is resonating deeply with viewers, especially in regions like Ouargla, where it has garnered significant interest. A special screening of Zighoud was also held in Algiers to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the outbreak of the Algerian Revolution.

The festival also features documentaries, including Where Did We End Up?, a powerful film documenting the struggles of Palestinian families in the aftermath of the Gaza war. Official competitions for both feature-length and documentary films are underway, marking the second day of intense cinematic rivalry.

Beyond cinema, the National Theater Days have commenced, marking their 25th edition, showcasing the vibrant theatrical scene in Algeria. Additionally, winners of the National Revolutionary Song Competition have been celebrated, highlighting the enduring power of music in Algerian culture.

In other news, Minister Ben Daouda met with the Director-General of UNESCO to discuss ways to strengthen partnerships and cooperation. The Minister also visited Egypt to participate in the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
