Algiers – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has instructed government officials to closely monitor the progress of the power grid interconnection project linking northern and southern Algeria. The directive was issued during Sunday’s Council of Ministers meeting, chaired by the President.
President Tebboune emphasized the strategic importance of the project, highlighting its role in ensuring energy security and promoting regional development. The interconnection will facilitate the efficient distribution of electricity across the country, addressing disparities in access to power between the north and the south.
Furthermore, the President directed that surplus electricity generated through this project be channeled towards export opportunities. This initiative aims to transform Algeria into a key energy exporter, boosting the national economy and strengthening its position in the regional energy market.
“The North-South power grid is a crucial step in modernizing our energy infrastructure and diversifying our economy,” stated a source close to the presidency. “President Tebboune is personally committed to ensuring its timely and successful completion.”
The Council of Ministers has been tasked with implementing a comprehensive monitoring mechanism to track the project’s progress, identify potential challenges, and ensure that all deadlines are met. Regular reports will be submitted to the President to keep him informed of the project’s status.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to investing in infrastructure development and promoting sustainable economic growth. The North-South power grid is expected to create numerous employment opportunities and contribute significantly to the overall development of the country.
