Algiers, October 28, 2025 – Algeria today commemorated the 63rd anniversary of reclaiming national sovereignty over its radio and television broadcasting services. The significant date, October 28th, 1962, marks a pivotal moment in the nation’s post-independence history.
A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at the memorial dedicated to this historic event. The ceremony was attended by a number of high-ranking officials, including the Minister of Communication, the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Rights Holders, and the Counselor to the President of the Republic responsible for the General Directorate of Communication. The Director-General of Algerian Television was also present.
The commemoration also drew a diverse audience of representatives from national, Arab, African, and European media organizations and institutions. Journalists, technicians, and staff members from both the television and radio broadcasting corporations participated in the event.
The reclamation of sovereignty over radio and television in 1962 symbolized Algeria’s firm control over its national narrative and its commitment to shaping its own media landscape following independence.
