Algiers, DZWatch – The Polisario Front will not participate in any political or negotiation process that falls outside the framework of international legitimacy and the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence. This was affirmed by Khatri Addouh, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic’s (SADR) ambassador to Algeria, in an exclusive interview with DZWatch.
The Sahrawi ambassador emphasized that the Polisario Front categorically rejects any solutions imposed by any party, be it the United States or other nations that contravene the principle of self-determination.
When questioned about the United States’ reported proposal to the UN Security Council adopting Morocco’s autonomy plan, Ambassador Addouh stated, “We believe that the United States acted in a very strange manner, outside the logic of law and legal reference. We believe it falls within the methodology of imposing solutions tailored to a specific measure that does not serve international law, international legitimacy, or respect the rights of peoples to self-determination.”
He continued, “It is about enshrining imposed solutions that are entirely in line with external interests, completely disregarding the interests of the people and respect for their rights. Perhaps in response to certain situations, some may say that the American proposal comes at this time to save the Moroccan monarchy, which is experiencing critical political and economic times, and thus trying to give a new lease of life to this regime, which, as many analysts and observers see it, is living its final moments.”
Regarding the Polisario’s message to the Russian envoy following the reported US proposal, Ambassador Addouh explained, “From the beginning, we have always been in favor of efforts that lead to ending this problem stemming from the lack of respect for international legitimacy and the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence, stemming from the Moroccan invasion and occupation that has now lasted fifty years.”
“Therefore, we have been and will remain alongside all good endeavors, provided that they are based on the specified foundations for a just and final solution to the Sahrawi issue as a matter of decolonization. On this basis, we have sought and continue to strive, even at this moment, to continue efforts with specific plans that proceed in the context of implementing international resolutions and international legitimacy, and enable the Sahrawi people to decide the fate of this region through a referendum in which all options are presented. If the Sahrawi people want to join…” the ambassador concluded, with his statement unfinished at the time of publication.
