Algiers, November 3, 2025 – A new draft traffic law has been developed in direct response to a roadmap established by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at reducing traffic accidents. The announcement was made today by the Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Mr. Lotfi Boujemâa.
The draft law, which was presented to the Council of Ministers yesterday, Sunday, represents a significant step towards addressing the ongoing issue of road safety in Algeria. The President’s roadmap prioritizes the reduction of traffic fatalities and injuries through a multi-faceted approach. This includes stricter enforcement of existing regulations, modernization of traffic infrastructure, and increased public awareness campaigns.
According to Minister Boujemâa, the new legislation aims to enhance road safety by introducing more stringent penalties for traffic violations, particularly those that contribute to accidents. The draft law also proposes improvements to the driver’s licensing system and the vehicle inspection process, ensuring that only qualified drivers operate safe vehicles on Algerian roads.
“This draft law is a crucial component of the President’s vision for a safer and more secure road environment for all Algerians,” stated Minister Boujemâa. “It reflects the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens from the devastating consequences of traffic accidents.”
The proposed changes are expected to undergo further review and debate within the government before being presented to Parliament for approval. The Ministry of Justice anticipates that the new traffic law will be implemented in the near future, marking a significant advancement in Algeria’s efforts to improve road safety and reduce the number of accidents.
