Oran, Algeria – Economic cooperation between Oman and Algeria is poised to enter a more dynamic phase, focused on tangible investment projects, according to Oman’s Minister of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources, Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi. The Minister made the remarks on Thursday in Oran, on the sidelines of the 10th International Fisheries and Aquaculture Exhibition ‘SIPA 2025’.
Minister Al Habsi emphasized that Oman’s participation as a guest of honor at SIPA 2025 is an extension of a joint economic trajectory with Algeria. This trajectory has gained increasing momentum following bilateral agreements signed earlier in 2025.
The understandings reached during Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s visit to Algeria in May 2025 have marked a significant economic turning point, particularly with the agreement on two executive programs and a memorandum of understanding in the agricultural and maritime sectors.
Developing joint investment projects has become an economic priority for both nations, the Minister noted. Work is underway to explore the establishment of an Omani-Algerian company to invest in the manufacturing of agricultural and maritime equipment, as well as the development of aquaculture projects.
According to Minister Al Habsi, cooperation extends to areas such as product quality control, the development of production technologies, and the exchange of expertise in desert agriculture. He described these projects as having a direct economic return, capable of creating jobs and increasing productive capacities in both countries, while also contributing to enhanced food security.
The Minister also affirmed that Algeria is an important economic partner in North Africa, and that Oman is keen to expand maritime and agricultural investment projects with the nation. He added that ‘SIPA 2025’ provides a practical platform for forging partnerships and identifying cooperation opportunities between economic actors from both sides.
Oman’s fisheries sector has become a significant contributor to added value through an integrated production chain encompassing fishing, aquaculture, manufacturing, export, and marketing, the Minister concluded. This partnership highlights a commitment to strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
