Algiers – The Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, presided over the closing ceremony of the 28th Algiers International Book Fair (SILA) on Saturday in Algiers. The event, which ran from October 29th to November 8th, culminated in the awarding of the “My First Book” prize and the honoring of prominent cultural and intellectual figures.
The closing ceremony marked the end of a successful edition of SILA, which saw significant participation from publishers, authors, and book enthusiasts from across Algeria and beyond. Minister Bendouda emphasized the importance of such events in promoting literacy and fostering a vibrant cultural landscape.
A highlight of the closing event was the presentation of the “My First Book” award, recognizing emerging Algerian literary talent. In addition to the awards ceremony, Minister Bendouda participated in the launch of the “Knowledge Caravan.” This initiative aims to bring books and cultural activities to underserved communities across Algeria, promoting reading and lifelong learning. The “Knowledge Caravan” is expected to play a crucial role in bridging the cultural gap and ensuring access to literature for all Algerians.
