FFS Announces Participation in Upcoming Elections, Calls for Reform

Algiers – The Front of Socialist Forces (FFS) has announced its decision to participate in the upcoming elections, while simultaneously calling for a comprehensive reform of the electoral system.

Dr. Youcef Aouchiche, the First National Secretary of the FFS, affirmed that the party’s National Council has definitively chosen to actively participate in the forthcoming electoral process. This decision, he stated, is rooted in a realistic and ambitious societal project centered on the values of freedom, justice, and solidarity. The overarching aim is to restore credibility to political and democratic action in Algeria.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the party’s national headquarters in Hydra, Algiers. The conference served to present the outcomes of the National Council’s ordinary session, convened on Friday, November 7, 2025. The session involved an evaluation of the political, economic, and social landscape, as well as the formulation of a future strategy for the party within the current national context.

Dr. Aouchiche emphasized that the decision to contest the elections is not a temporary one based on narrow calculations. Rather, it is integral to a comprehensive vision aimed at rebuilding trust between citizens and state institutions, and at bolstering the effective presence of democratic forces in the political arena. He urged Algerian citizens to engage consciously and responsibly in shaping their future, transforming hope into practical national commitment.

Electoral Reform and Addressing Apathy

Aouchiche stressed the need to revise the legal framework governing elections, advocating for a system capable of producing a clear political map that genuinely reflects the popular will. He criticized complex mechanisms such as the 4% threshold and signature collection requirements, which he argued present barriers to genuine competition. He further called for a reconsideration of the powers and composition of the Independent National Elections Authority, as well as methods of party financing, to enhance transparency and combat illicit financial influence.

He asserted that electoral apathy poses a national challenge for which all parties bear responsibility. He called for the initiation of a democratic political process that guarantees freedom of choice and restores confidence in institutions, while promoting responsible and objective citizen participation in shaping their political future.

Foreign Policy and Regional Security

Regarding foreign policy, the party’s National Council emphasized the need for an active and bold diplomacy that protects national interests and promotes a…
