Algeria and Somalia Sign Landmark Cooperation Agreements

Algiers, November 11, 2025 – Algeria and Somalia have solidified their bilateral relations with the signing of several key cooperation agreements. The signing ceremony, held earlier today, was attended by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

A significant Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Somali Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education. This agreement focuses on fostering collaboration in the field of higher education, paving the way for potential student exchanges and joint research initiatives.

Further strengthening this commitment, an Executive Program was also signed, outlining specific collaborative activities between the two ministries for the years 2026, 2027, 2028, and 2029. This program details the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding and sets concrete goals for the partnership.

Beyond education, the two nations also forged agreements in vital economic sectors. An agreement was signed between the governments of Algeria and Somalia focusing on cooperation in agriculture and fisheries, aiming to bolster food security and promote sustainable resource management in both countries. Another agreement addressed collaboration in the field of animal health, seeking to improve livestock management and prevent the spread of animal diseases.

Recognizing the importance of the energy and resource sectors, Algeria and Somalia also signed an agreement to cooperate in the fields of oil, gas, and mining. This agreement opens doors for potential joint ventures and knowledge sharing in these crucial industries.

Finally, in a move to facilitate diplomatic exchanges, the two governments signed an agreement waiving visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports, streamlining official travel between Algeria and Somalia. These agreements mark a significant step forward in strengthening the ties between Algeria and Somalia, fostering collaboration across multiple sectors and promising mutual benefits for both nations.Further details on the specific initiatives within each agreement will be released in the coming weeks.
