Setif, Algeria – Law enforcement in Setif province has successfully dismantled a major international drug trafficking network, seizing substantial quantities of illicit substances. The operation resulted in the confiscation of over 22 kilograms of cocaine and 17 kilograms of processed cannabis (kif), marking a significant blow to organized crime in the region.
According to a statement released by the Setif Police Department, the operation was the culmination of extensive intelligence gathering and field investigations, supported by advanced technical analysis. These efforts uncovered the network’s sophisticated operational methods, which included the use of satellite communication systems to coordinate activities between members.
The investigation led to the arrest of eight individuals suspected of involvement in the drug trafficking ring. Preliminary findings indicate that the network’s operations extended beyond Algerian borders, with links to Morocco. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of their international reach.
In addition to the narcotics, authorities seized a significant amount of cash, totaling 335 million centimes. They also confiscated a satellite phone, two prohibited walkie-talkie communication devices, three passenger vehicles, one utility vehicle, two motorcycles, and one jet ski. These assets are believed to be proceeds from, or used in furtherance of, the illicit drug trade.
The suspects have been presented before the Public Prosecutor at the specialized judicial pole, where they will face prosecution in accordance with applicable laws. This operation underscores the commitment of Algerian law enforcement to combating drug trafficking and maintaining public safety. The authorities have vowed to continue their efforts to dismantle criminal networks and bring perpetrators to justice. DZWatch will continue to provide updates on this developing story.
