Algiers, November 12, 2025 – Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib presided over a government meeting today to address several key policy matters. The council focused on revisions to traffic laws, telecommunications infrastructure, and audiovisual production regulations, among other items.
The government conducted a final review of the preliminary draft law concerning traffic regulations. This review follows instructions issued by the President during the Council of Ministers meeting held on November 2, 2025. The updated draft aims to strengthen measures to combat traffic accidents. It incorporates stricter and more severe penalties for offenders, intending to reduce the number of accidents recorded annually.
Furthermore, the government examined an executive decree approving the renewal of the license granted to Algérie Télécom, a joint-stock company, for the establishment and operation of a fixed public electronic communications network and the provision of related services. The draft decree includes amendments to the specifications, adapting them to developments in the sector. These changes will facilitate the provision of services related to the operation of the fixed electronic communications network.
The decree also stipulates a revision of requirements regarding regional coverage, service quality, personal data protection, and cybersecurity compliance. In addition, the government began considering a draft executive decree outlining the conditions and procedures for engaging in audiovisual production and filming. This text, implementing the provisions of Law No. 23-20 dated December 2, 2023, concerning audiovisual activity, represents a significant step towards completing the legal framework and enabling the new operational environment for the audiovisual sector.
Finally, the government received a presentation on the crucial role of accreditation, conformity, and validation of research and innovation products, and their contribution to enhancing the economic role of universities in the country’s development. This presentation serves as a prelude to a strategically important initiative. This initiative will establish a network for accreditation, conformity, and validation, covering all value chains of national production of goods and services.
