Arab Justice Ministers Convene in Cairo for Key Legal Cooperation Talks

Cairo, Egypt – Arab Ministers of Justice convened in Cairo today for the 41st session of the Council of Arab Justice Ministers. The meeting, held at the headquarters of the League of Arab States, focuses on strengthening legal and judicial cooperation among member states.

Algeria is actively participating in the session, with the Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Lotfi Bougemaa, representing the nation as Vice-President of the Executive Office of the Council. Algeria reaffirmed its commitment to supporting joint Arab efforts and enhancing legal integration across the region.

Discussions during the session center on enhancing cooperation in judicial and legislative fields, as well as sharing legal expertise. Ministers are also working to finalize several key Arab agreements, including those related to combating terrorism, its financing, money laundering, and drug trafficking. The establishment of unified Arab mechanisms to combat hate speech is also on the agenda.

Algeria is playing a proactive role in advancing the development of the Arab legal system. The nation has submitted two new draft agreements: the Arab Agreement on Regulating the Status of Refugees in Arab Countries and the Arab Agreement on the Protection of Personal Data. Furthermore, Algeria is promoting the Arab Model Law for the Protection of Children from Recruitment in Armed Conflicts.

The meeting’s agenda also includes discussions on other model laws, notably the Unified Arab Law on Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances and the Arab Law for the Protection and Assistance of Displaced Persons. These initiatives are part of broader efforts to harmonize legal perspectives and address current challenges to regional security and stability.

The meetings are expected to produce a series of practical recommendations aimed at strengthening Arab legal and judicial cooperation, promoting regional justice, and keeping pace with modern legislative developments in the Arab world.
