The Sudanese Army commander in Babnusa, located in the West Kordofan state of southern Sudan, Brigadier General Muawia Hamad Abdullah, has pledged that his forces will not surrender to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) who are besieging the city. He affirmed that the army will “fight until victory.”
Brigadier General Abdullah, who commands the 22nd Infantry Division in Babnusa, stated in a statement released yesterday, “We reassure the Sudanese people that Babnusa is secure, and that our division is steadfast and will remain resilient against the enemies.”
He emphasized, “Let everyone know that our division (22nd Infantry) will not negotiate, surrender, or withdraw. We will fight until victory. We will not let down Sudan or the Sudanese people.” He further asserted that “Anyone who tries to approach Babnusa will face death.”
In recent days, the Sudanese Army has reportedly repelled several large-scale attacks by the RSF on Babnusa using artillery, drones, and combat vehicles. On November 8th, the RSF in West Kordofan announced their readiness to confront the army in order to seize control of Babnusa.
The army has recently been airdropping supplies to support its forces inside Babnusa, which has been under siege by the RSF since January 2024.
Meanwhile, a Sudanese military source stated that an RSF drone targeted an oil refinery facility in Al Jabalain, south of the White Nile state. An army source also confirmed the recapture of the Um Dum Haj Ahmed locality in North Kordofan state, adding that the army is engaged in fierce clashes against the RSF in several cities of Kordofan.
The three Kordofan states (North, West, and South) have witnessed intense clashes between the Sudanese Army and the RSF in recent days, following the RSF’s capture of El Fasher, the capital of the neighboring North Darfur state.
General Mobilization
The head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, announced a general mobilization within the armed forces yesterday, calling on all Sudanese citizens capable of bearing arms to come forward and participate in the ongoing fight against the Rapid Support Forces. This announcement came as the United Nations Human Rights Council unanimously adopted a resolution yesterday to form a fact-finding mission to investigate alleged human rights violations in Sudan.
