Boughezoul, Algeria – Algeria has initiated a new strategic project aimed at bolstering the security of its space communications infrastructure. The project, officially launched on Saturday, November 15, 2025, in the wilaya of Medea, marks a significant step in enhancing Algeria’s technological resilience.
The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Mr. Sidelali Zerrouki, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the infrastructure security project at the Space Telecommunications Center, a subsidiary of Algeria Space Telecommunications. The core objective of this vital project is to ensure the continuity and readiness of space communications services. This will be achieved through the construction of a backup center in Boughezoul, designed to serve as a redundant facility for the Al-Akhdaria center in case of emergencies.
The selection of Boughezoul as the project site was a deliberate strategic decision. It was based on rigorous technical criteria, including the region’s low seismic activity, the availability of a robust fiber optic network, convenient access via the Chiffa-Boughezoul highway, and its proximity to the Algerian Space Agency.
The project spans an area of 30,000 square meters and is funded with an investment of one billion Algerian dinars. This substantial investment underscores the high priority that Algerian authorities place on developing the country’s space communications infrastructure. The project is also expected to generate new employment opportunities during both the construction and operational phases, contributing to a tangible economic impact at both the local and national levels.
This undertaking represents a qualitative leap forward in strengthening the security of Algeria’s space communications and ensuring the sustainability of vital services that are essential to critical sectors within the nation.
