Algiers – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has officially approved the upgrade of eleven administrative districts in the High Plateaus and Southern regions to full-fledged provinces. The decision was ratified during Sunday’s Council of Ministers meeting, according to a statement released by the President’s office.
The Council of Ministers endorsed the proposal to transform these districts into provinces with full administrative and developmental powers. The newly designated provinces are:
- Aflou
- Barika
- Ksar Chellala
- Messaad
- Ain Oussera
- Boussaada
- El Bayadh Sidi Cheikh
- El Kantara
- Bir El Ater
- Ksar El Boukhari
- El Aricha
This significant move, as stated in the official release, aims to strengthen decentralization efforts and bolster local development across various areas of the High Plateaus and Southern Algeria. By granting these new provinces broader authority, the government intends to accelerate the pace of development and improve public services for citizens in these regions.
Following the approval, President Tebboune instructed the immediate commencement of administrative and legal procedures necessary to implement the decision. This process will be carried out in coordination with both chambers of Parliament.
Residents of these newly established provinces anticipate that this upgrade will alleviate administrative burdens and bring governance closer to the people. It is expected that this will expedite the completion of development projects and improve living conditions in the affected areas. The move is seen as a positive step towards greater regional autonomy and enhanced local empowerment.
