Heavy Snow, Thunderstorms Forecast for Several Regions

DZWatch Exclusive: Algeria is bracing for a period of inclement weather as heavy snowfall and thunderstorms are predicted to impact several regions across the country. The National Meteorological Office issued a special weather advisory on Thursday, outlining the areas expected to be affected.

Central highlands above 900 meters can expect significant snowfall, with accumulations ranging from 10 to 20 centimeters. The alert is in effect from 3:00 PM on Friday to 3:00 PM on Saturday. The affected provinces include Bouira, Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Jijel, Setif, and Bordj Bou Arreridj.

Eastern highlands will also experience snowfall, with accumulations between 5 and 10 centimeters. This alert begins at 9:00 PM on Friday and lasts until midday on Saturday, impacting the provinces of Skikda, Mila, Constantine, Guelma, Souk Ahras, Oum El Bouaghi, Batna, and Khenchela.

A separate advisory warns of snowfall in the highlands exceeding 1000 meters in altitude. Accumulations are expected to be between 5 and 10 centimeters, starting at 6:00 PM on Friday and ending at 9:00 AM on Saturday. This alert covers the provinces of Blida, Ain Defla, Tissemsilt, and Medea.
