Washington, D.C. – The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a warning on Friday to civilian aircraft operating within Venezuelan airspace, citing potential hazards stemming from increased military activity in the region. The advisory comes amid heightened tensions and a reported build-up of US forces in the Caribbean.
The FAA urged civilian pilots to exercise extreme caution when flying in or around Venezuelan airspace, emphasizing a “deteriorating security situation” and a surge in military operations. The warning specifically highlights potential threats to aircraft at all altitudes, including during flight, arrival, departure, and while on the ground at airports.
This development follows recent orders from Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who instructed the military, Bolivarian militias, and popular defense forces to protect vital infrastructure, including oil, gas, and electricity installations. These orders were issued amidst reports suggesting possible US military actions against Venezuela.
In statements broadcast by state media, Maduro accused the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of plotting to sabotage strategic facilities within the country in an attempt to destabilize the Venezuelan economy. The Venezuelan President has previously expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue with his US counterpart, while also announcing the mobilization of 4.5 million personnel in preparation for a potential attack.
The Trump administration had previously accused Maduro of leading a drug trafficking operation targeting the United States. US media outlets have also reported on discussions within the administration regarding potential regime change in Venezuela. DZWatch continues to monitor the situation closely for further developments.
The warning to civilian aircraft precedes the anticipated designation of a drug cartel, allegedly led by Maduro, as a US-designated terrorist organization. This move is viewed by some as a potential precursor to military action against the Venezuelan government. The United States has reportedly deployed a significant force to the Caribbean region near Venezuela, including the aircraft carrier USS Gerald Ford and other warships.
