Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, represented Algeria at the 21st General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), held in Riyadh from November 23rd to 27th. This year’s conference was elevated to the ‘Global Industrial Summit – GIS 2025,’ attracting ministers, high-level officials, and leaders from major global industrial institutions.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Minister Arkab led a substantial Algerian delegation comprising representatives from the hydrocarbons, mining, and industrial sectors. The delegation also included Algeria’s Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to UNIDO, Larbi Latroche, Algeria’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Cherif Oualid, and the Head of the National Agency for Mining Activities, Mourad Hanifi, along with senior officials from various relevant national bodies.
This high-level representation reflects Algeria’s strong commitment to enhancing its industrial and international presence on this globally significant platform. The broad participation and diverse representation underscore Algeria’s dedication to asserting its position as a pivotal partner in global industrial and energy matters.
During his intervention in the general debate, Minister Arkab congratulated the Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef, on assuming the presidency of the session. He expressed Algeria’s full support and commended the Kingdom’s meticulous organization and warm reception of participants. The Minister also extended his appreciation to the outgoing president, Ambassador Deborah Leipre, and the Director-General of UNIDO, Gerd Müller, for their efforts in developing the organization’s programs and enhancing support for member states.
Minister Arkab reiterated Algeria’s support for the statements issued by the Group of 77 and China, the African Group, and the Arab Group. He emphasized UNIDO’s crucial role in supporting industrial development, promoting innovation, developing competencies, and assisting countries in addressing global economic and technological challenges. He expressed Algeria’s satisfaction with the progress of UNIDO’s programs, underscoring the importance of its financial stability and the adoption of a realistic and effective budget.
Algeria aims to leverage its vast potential to become a major player in the global industrial landscape, as highlighted during the summit.
