Housing & Education Ministers Review School Entry, Plan for Future

The Minister of Housing, Urban Planning, and the City, Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, alongside the Minister of National Education, Mohamed Seghir Saadaoui, presided over a meeting Sunday dedicated to evaluating the 2025-2026 school year entry and preparing for the 2026-2027 academic session. The meeting, held at the headquarters of the National Housing Bank, saw the participation of key officials from both sectors.

Attendees included the Secretary Generals of the respective ministries, the heads of the Housing and Equipment Committees, the Education and Higher Education Committee of the National People’s Assembly, as well as directors of public equipment and education from across the nation, both in person and via video conference.

During his address, Minister Belaribi emphasized the increasing investment in the education sector reflected in recent financial laws, highlighting the state’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure. He noted that between 2020 and 2024, a total of 677 educational facilities were completed, followed by the programming of 224 facilities in 2025 and 330 in the 2026 financial law.

The Minister further pointed out that the combined total of facilities planned for 2025 and 2026 (557 facilities) represents over 80% of what was achieved in the five years between 2020 and 2024, underscoring the significant attention given to the education sector by higher authorities. Regarding the pace of construction, the Minister revealed that 620 educational facilities were delivered between 2020 and 2024, compared to 322 facilities in 2025 alone. This figure represents more than half of what was delivered in the previous five years, reflecting a marked acceleration in the delivery of educational infrastructure.

The meeting also reviewed the financial allocations for the sector: DZD 648 billion for the period 2020-2024 for the completion of 931 public facilities (including 677 educational facilities); DZD 67 billion in the 2025 financial law for the construction of 224 educational facilities; and DZD 150 billion in the 2026 financial law for the construction of 430 facilities, including 200 primary schools, 80 middle schools, and 50 high schools.

In the context of linking housing and educational infrastructure, the Minister affirmed that the state’s vision aims for integrated residential neighborhoods that include public facilities, primarily educational institutions. He called for the construction of educational facilities in parallel with housing projects, especially following the launch of the 46,000-unit “AADL 3” project across the country, including 8,000 units in the urban pole of Sidi Saïd in Constantine.
