Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Algeria is looking to strengthen its collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) across four strategic areas, according to Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab.
Speaking at the opening of the 21st UNIDO General Conference in Riyadh, Minister Arkab highlighted Algeria’s interest in deepening ties with the organization in the fields of new and renewable energies, industrial innovation, value chains, and improving the investment climate.
Arkab, who is leading a high-level delegation to the summit, emphasized the growing dynamism of the cooperation between Algeria and UNIDO. The delegation includes representatives from the hydrocarbons, mining, and industry sectors, reflecting Algeria’s strong commitment to enhancing its industrial and international presence.
He further noted that the partnership between Algeria and UNIDO encompasses several projects spanning six key areas: the green and circular economy, industrial digital transformation, technology transfer, strengthening the innovation ecosystem, supporting startups and micro-enterprises, and developing industrial and technical capabilities.
Minister Arkab stressed the importance of aligning UNIDO’s programs with the priorities of the African continent, emphasizing renewable energies, digital transformation, the circular economy, skills development, and technology transfer as crucial areas of focus.
He concluded by recalling the success of the Intra-African Trade Fair recently hosted by Algeria, which saw active participation from UNIDO, further cementing the partnership between Algeria and the organization.
This summit, themed as a “Global Industrial Summit”, is expected to last until Thursday.
